Senior Platform Engineer (Cloud, Kubernetes, AI Infrastructure)
Multiverse Computing
Multiverse is a well-funded and fast-growing deep-tech company founded in 2019. We are one of the few companies working with Quantum Computing and the biggest Quantum Software company in the EU.
We provide hyper-efficient software to companies wanting to gain an edge with quantum computing and artificial intelligence. Our product, Singularity, is a software platform that contains quantum and quantum-inspired algorithms developed and patented through proof-of-concept trials we have been performing for industrial and service clients. We work in finance, energy, manufacturing, cybersecurity and many more industries.
You will be working alongside world leading experts to build solutions that tackle real life issues. We look for passionate people that want to grow in an ethics driven environment, promoting sustainability and diversity. We aim to continue building our truly inclusive culture - come and join us!
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to lead the design and evolution of next-generation cloud and AI infrastructure platforms. This role combines deep DevOps, cloud architecture, and systems engineering expertise with a strong focus on open-source technologies and Kubernetes extensibility.
You will play a critical role in building and operating a hybrid cloud / neo-cloud platform, spanning AWS and private infrastructure, while developing advanced Kubernetes-based control planes to orchestrate large-scale, high-performance workloads.
This is a hands-on, senior-level role requiring deep Kubernetes internals knowledge, including the ability to design and implement custom CRDs and Operators for enterprise-grade platforms.
What You’ll Do
Platform & Cloud Architecture
Design and implement hybrid cloud architectures across AWS and private cloud environments.
Build scalable, secure, and highly available systems using AWS services (IAM, VPC, Transit Gateway, Control Tower, etc.).
Architect and operate platforms leveraging OpenStack and/or OpenShift for private cloud and container orchestration.
Kubernetes & Control Plane Engineering (Core Focus)
Design and develop custom Kubernetes Operators and CRDs to manage complex infrastructure and workloads.
Extend Kubernetes APIs to support enterprise use cases such as:
Multi-tenant platforms
GPU orchestration and scheduling
Infrastructure abstraction layers
Work deeply with Kubernetes internals (API server, scheduler, controller-runtime).
Neo-Cloud & Infrastructure Engineering
Contribute to building a “neo-cloud” platform, integrating cloud-like abstractions on top of bare metal or hybrid environments.
Develop control planes, agents, and APIs to automate infrastructure lifecycle management.
Work with emerging cloud providers and paradigms (e.g., Nscale, Nebius).
DevOps & Automation
Define and implement DevOps strategy, CI/CD pipelines, and release processes.
Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools.
Build and maintain GitOps workflows and platform automation.
High-Performance & Distributed Systems
Support large-scale distributed workloads, including AI/ML and data-intensive applications.
Optimize compute, storage, and networking layers for performance and scalability.
Collaborate on scheduling, orchestration, and workload optimization.
Security & Reliability
Implement DevSecOps practices, including SAST/DAST, IAM best practices, and infrastructure security.
Ensure system reliability through monitoring, observability, and incident response.
Troubleshoot complex issues across cloud, Kubernetes, and hardware layers.
Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor engineers and contribute to platform engineering best practices.
Work cross-functionally with software, data, and infrastructure teams.
Drive technical decisions and influence platform strategy.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; alternatively, significant work experience as a Software Engineer.
10+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or systems engineering.
Proven experience as a Cloud Architect with strong AWS expertise. AWS certifications are desirable.
Expert-level Kubernetes experience (non-negotiable):
Deep understanding of Kubernetes internals
Hands-on experience building custom CRDs and Operators
Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform
Experience with CI/CD systems (GitLab Pipelines, GitHub Actions).
Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python or JavaScript
Strong Linux systems knowledge and debugging skills.
Experience building secure, scalable, production-grade platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with OpenStack and/or OpenShift in production environments.
Familiarity with neo-cloud platforms such as Nscale, Nebius, or similar emerging providers.
Background in bare-metal provisioning or hybrid infrastructure.
Experience with GPU infrastructure and AI/ML workloads.
Knowledge of service meshes (e.g., Istio).
Experience with HPC environments or distributed scheduling systems.
Exposure to high-performance networking (RDMA, InfiniBand, etc.).
Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKAD, CKS).
German fluency.
Perks & Benefits
Indefinite contract.
Equal pay guaranteed.
Signing bonus.
Relocation package (if applicable).
Opportunity to be part of the phantom shares programme.
Private health insurance.
Hybrid opportunity.
Flexible working hours.
Holidays: 23 working days plus 14 public holidays
